Rain-X Windshield Treatment Review

Rain X Windshield Treatment - Rain Repellent

RV Product Overview

One of the best products that I've use on the windshield of my coach and tow car as well is Rain X. Rain X is a transparent polymer that causes rain to bead up and roll off glass surfaces.

The Problem

When it rains, water on an untreated window sheets off. Sheeting water on a glass surface, like a windshield, causes significant distortion in the light/images passing through the glass because it isn't perfectly smooth. This is a safety hazard plus it is very annoying and makes driving in these conditions very dangerous.

Rain X Windshield Treatment

The Solution

Rain-X is an exterior window (windshield, mirror, rear-window) treatment that causes water to shed from the surface rather than sheet. After a windshield has been treated with Rain X, water beads up and drips off. Rain-X causes the water to bead up so that spaces between the beads give you clear vision of what's ahead. While this is clearly evident during daytime rainstorms, it is particularly effective during rainstorms at night. You can actually see! During most rain showers, you can leave your wipers on intermittent when others have their wipers going full bore, and you'll still be able to see far better than they can even with your wiper blades operating at less than 1/3rd the speed of theirs. Better sight is better safety.

In the motorhome or RV you can also use Rain X on your satellite dome to greatly improve your satellite signal when it rains. Like on the windshield, when Rain X is applied to the satellite radome, it causes dew, moisture or rain to bead up and shed off of the dome usually allowing for a clear signal, whereas in the rain on an untreated satellite dome, the satellite signal will most likely be lost.

Installation and Operation

Application is the easiest part. In a dry environment above 40*F, add a few drops of Rain-X to a dry washcloth (even a paper towel works good), or you may wish to use the more expensive spray bottle. Apply to entire windshield, side driver's and passenger's window and mirrors of the motorhome and/or all windows of the tow car. Once a slight haze develops, wipe again with a dry washcloth until the windows are free of streaks. Now all you need to do is wait until it rains - and Rain X does the rest. The same application procedure is also employed on the satellite dome.
