From-Trees-To-These Cabinets - RV Cabinetry
Overview
Located in America's heartland, just south east of Decatur Indiana and a stone's throw from the Ohio border lives Greg Mies, one of the finest craftsmen of custom coach cabinet work in all the land. Don't let the unusual name of his company fool you. It is called From Trees To These, and his quality custom woodwork exemplifies his unusual moniker.
For more than 25 years, 45 year old Greg Mies has been building a reputation and a client base that now extends throughout North America. For the past 15 years Greg has focused his attention and honed his speciality to near perfection in the design, development and implementation of custom cabinetwork for American Coaches, however his work also extends to such popular motorhome brands as Monaco, Newmar, and Prevost among others. The quality of his work is second to none and many of his ideas have been adopted by American Coach and now are featured in their luxury motorhomes; the Heritage, the Eagle, and the Tradition all manufactured coincidentally in Decatur, Indiana. If you own any make, model or year of American Coach and want any sort of custom cabinetwork done Greg will design and build it for you such that you'll never be able to tell that it wasn't original. Everything from hinges, to surfaces, to moldings, to raised panels, to hardware is exactly the same as produced by American Coach, only customized to your exact specifications and needs.
Greg's attention to every minute detail of his work even includes his fabrication and perfect restoration of Corian surfaces. Staying current in his field, technology has not left Greg behind as he is now able to generate computerized images of his cabinetwork, especially kitchen re-designs wherein he provides his clients with elaborate birds-eye-views and elevation drawings prior to the actual construction. Therein he is able to remove the 'guesstimation' from the equation. From these drawings, Greg is able to supply his customers with precise images of the work as well as provide them with an accurate cost beforehand, so as to eliminate surprises upon completion.
Greg exemplifies the American entrepreneurial spirit, having started building birdhouses from scrap lumber to apprenticing as a furniture builder for a couple of different local furniture manufacturing companies in the Decatur area, to working construction and finally making a go of it on his own doing what he loves to do and having fun at the same time. Having a unique and offbeat sense of humor, Greg has also managed to parody his own company with a spin-off subsidiary, pseudo-company that he calls From Sap to Crap. Herein he pokes fun of the name of his company, From Trees to These and for this company he has a motto which states: "You don't pay for quality, 'cuz you don't get it". If any of Greg's customers complain about the price of the finely crafted masterpieces made From Trees to These, he simply (jokingly) directs them to his subsidiary company, From Sap to Crap, where he lets them know that he can also masterfully create much less expensive junk furniture made from balsa wood and old pallets! So far in his 15 years of business he hasn't had any 'takers' yet, because all of his customers as well as Greg himself just get a laugh out of it. In reality though, Greg is not only a very funny guy, but a perfectionist, a professional custom coach furniture designer and master craftsman and builder. The real slogan of From Trees To These is: "You don't pay for quality.....it's priceless".
Dining Cabinets & Computer Workstation Configurations
Unlike other similar companies, Greg is a one-man-band in that he does all of the work himself including the designing, building and installation of all of his custom cabinetwork out of his home/office/shop. It is all accomplished in his country, farm-like setting in a 5000+ square foot converted barn in rural Indiana. At one time, several years ago, Greg employed up to 7 other skilled craftsmen to assist him, but found that situation unwieldy and now simply operates alone and, for him, more efficiently. His work is almost exclusively and primarily customizing American Coaches.
In addition to the custom cabinetry produced by From Trees To These, Greg also manufactures, in rather mass production fashion, small customized coach items such as wood magazine racks (stained to match the existing coach interior wood finish); wood cup / drink holders and organizers (also stained to match); and his latest creation, a 9 inch by 3-1/2 inch by 1/4 inch corian plate that fits perfectly behind the grab handle on the entry door to protect the leather (behind the handle) from getting soiled when dirty hands continually close the door. Greg sells these small and unique items both at rallies and out of the back of his pick-up truck during his almost daily visits to the American Coach Service Center parking lot where he routinely measures for new cabinet work. These small items have become so popular with American Coach owners that when he arrives in the parking lot, it is not unusual for his truck to be swarmed on by numerous coach owners. Because of this phenomenon Greg has become known at American Coach Service (commonly known as Camp Decatur) as "The Gypsy in the Parking Lot." There he will do an on-the-spot, instant installation of one or several of these small unique items, while at the same time socializing with coach owners and taking orders and measurements for future custom cabinetwork.
Small Custom Items
The secret of Greg's success is word-of-mouth, which is spreading like wildfire throughout American Coach owners. Many of his customers are repeat owners who have sold one coach that Greg has previously customized and bought another which he has then also customized. Most, if not all of these satisfied owners have told their friends who then become Greg's new customers..............and it goes on and on. We highly recommend From Trees To These and it is definitely worth the trip to Decatur, Indiana for your custom cabinetwork.
